Election 2020: Glenn Grandis takes early lead in Fountain Valley City Council race
Early returns Tuesday night in the race for Fountain Valley City Council showed promise for two newcomers to join the dais of the city promoting itself as “a nice place to live.”
Glenn Grandis, chief financial officer of the Fountain Valley Community Foundation, and Mai-Khanh Tran, a pediatrician, led the pack of seven candidates, according to Orange County Registrar of Voters data from 9 p.m. As of that time, no precincts were reporting in, Grandis had garnered 7,729 votes and Tran 6,427.
Registrar showed a countywide voter turnout of 58.2%.
Incumbent Mayor Cheryl Brothers, on the council since 2002, was coming closely in third, with 6,308 votes.
As of 8 p.m., trailing the top three were small businessman Ted Bui, with 5,671 votes; Jim Cunneen, a Fountain Valley School District trustee, with 4,596 votes; Tom Nguyen, a director for the Santa Ana Chamber of Commerce, with 2,359 votes; and Mary Pham, retired medical worker, with 2,039 votes.
School board election results for the Newport-Mesa Unified, Fountain Valley, Huntington Beach City, Huntington Beach Union and Laguna Beach Unified school districts.
