COVID-19: 7 new deaths and 255 new cases reported in Orange County
Seven new deaths related to COVID-19 and 255 new cases of the coronavirus were reported Tuesday by the Orange County Health Care Agency, bringing the total number of deaths and cases in the county to 1,454 and 58,980, respectively.
The agency reported 8,402 tests administered. The new total for tests in the county is 1,075,250, excluding cumulative positive antigen tests, which are at 1,856. Currently, 157 patients are hospitalized and 56 are in intensive care units.
County officials estimate that about 52,643 patients have recovered.
Orange County is currently in the red, “substantial” tier. It was first placed there by the state on Sept. 8, an improvement from the purple, “widespread” tier.
Students at the six elementary schools in the Huntington Beach City School District will be on campus four days a week during the pandemic.
Data indicate that the county is seeing an adjusted daily case rate of 5.1 for every 100,000 residents. The testing positivity rate is 3.2%, and the health equity quartile positivity rate, which tracks test positivity rates in disadvantaged communities, is 6%.
In order for the county to move to the “moderate” tier, the adjusted daily case rate will need to fall between 1 to 3.9 for every 100,000 residents, and the healthy equity quartile positivity rate will need to fall between 2.2 to 5.2%.
