O.C. coronavirus cases post largest day-to-day jump, reaching 606; deaths rise to 10

The number of known coronavirus cases in Orange County spiked Wednesday with the announcement of 107 new positives, a roughly 20% increase from the day before. The number of deaths increased by three, bringing the countywide total to 10.

The 606 cumulative cases come from 7,271 tests, according to the Orange County Health Care Agency.

As of Wednesday, 67 people were hospitalized with the coronavirus that causes the respiratory disease COVID-19, with 31 of them in intensive care, the agency reported.

The 107-case surge from Tuesday is the largest day-to-day increase so far, outpacing the 82-case spike Saturday.

The 10 deaths were spread over a range of age groups. Six were 65 or older, one was 45 to 64, one was 35 to 44 and two were 25 to 34. They were evenly split among men and women. County health officials did not provide further information about the people who died.

Here are the latest case counts for select cities, with their numbers per 10,000 residents:

• Irvine: 57 (two cases per 10,000 residents)
• Newport Beach: 54 (6.2 cases per 10,000 residents)
• Anaheim: 56 (1.6 cases per 10,000 residents)
• Huntington Beach: 39 (1.9 cases per 10,000 residents)
• Laguna Beach: 25 (10.7 cases per 10,000 residents)
• Santa Ana: 36 (1.1 cases per 10,000 residents)
• Costa Mesa: 12 (one case per 10,000 residents)
• Fountain Valley: eight (1.4 cases per 10,000 residents)
