Lakers icon Kobe Bryant and his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, were buried in a private service near the family’s Newport Coast home last week, according to death certificates.

A death certificate for Bryant, 41, states that his disposition occurred Friday at Pacific View Memorial Park in Corona del Mar. It had been originally planned for Westwood Village Memorial Park but was changed.

A spokesman for Pacific View’s parent company declined to confirm or otherwise comment Wednesday on whether the Bryants are interred at the cemetery, saying he wanted to respect the family’s privacy.

A memorial service is planned for Bryant and his daughter at 10 a.m. Feb. 24 at Staples Center. The event will cap weeks of tributes following the Jan. 26 helicopter crash in Calabasas that killed the Bryants, the pilot and parents, players and a coach on Bryant’s Mamba Sports Academy girls’ basketball team.

Bryant’s wife, Vanessa, wrote Monday on Instagram about the loss she and her family have been feeling.

“I’ve been reluctant to put my feelings into words. My brain refuses to accept that both Kobe and Gigi are gone,” she wrote. “I can’t process both at the same time. It’s like I’m trying to process Kobe being gone but my body refuses to accept my Gigi will never come back to me. It feels wrong. Why should I be able to wake up another day when my baby girl isn’t being able to have that opportunity?! I’m so mad. She had so much life to live.”

Christina Mauser memorial to be private

A memorial for crash victim Christina Mauser scheduled for Sunday at her high school alma mater, Edison High in Huntington Beach, will not be open to the public or the news media, according to a news release issued Tuesday night.

“Following the previous public vigil held on Feb. 1 at the Huntington Beach Pier, this memorial event will provide a more private opportunity for the Edison High School community and its alumni to gather in remembrance and honor of Christina,” the release said.

Friends and community members filled Huntington Beach Pier Plaza on Saturday night to honor local resident Christina Mauser, who died in the helicopter crash that also killed Kobe Bryant and seven other area residents.

Mauser, 38, was an assistant coach on the Mamba team and a standout athlete at Edison High, where she played varsity basketball and volleyball and graduated in 1999. She is a member of Edison’s Athletic Hall of Fame.

She also was an educator, teaching at Pegasus School in Huntington Beach and Harbor Day School in Corona del Mar, where she taught physical education and coached girls basketball.

The mother of three was married to Matt Mauser, a fellow educator and frontman of the band Tijuana Dogs.

Members of the Edison High School community and its alumni can call the school at (714) 962-1356 for information about tickets for Sunday’s event, which begins at 1 p.m.
