Cat killed in Burbank apartment fire
Two cats were rescued and one died in a Burbank apartment fire Sunday evening that caused an estimated $70,000 in damages, officials said.
Around 6:15 p.m., firefighters were called to the two-story apartment complex, located on the 400 block of East Cypress Avenue, where a blaze burned through the rear bedroom of a two-bedroom unit, said Burbank Battalion Chief Steve Briggs.
Two residents were watching football in another room when the smoke alarm sounded, alerting them to the smoke coming from the burning bedroom.
“That bedroom was completely destroyed,” Briggs said.
The pair escaped unharmed, and firefighters knocked down the blaze before it could spread to other rooms or units, Briggs said.
Meanwhile, one cat escaped on its own, while another was found hiding under a bed in the front room. A third cat was killed in the blaze.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
