Glendale resident who wrote weight-loss book based on biblical principles to appear in Burbank

There are numerous weight-loss techniques and fads that have come and gone, but a former Disney animator says a combination of those methods, plus her faith in God, has helped her keep the pounds off.

Glendale resident Carole Holliday, 51, recently published her book, “The Food Ain’t the Problem,” which chronicles her previous experiences in trying to lose weight and how her Christianity helped her lose more than 100 pounds during the last seven years.

Holliday, who was a storyboard artist for Disney up until this past July, drew illustrations to help tell her weight-loss story.

She will be reading excerpts from her book and signing autographs at the Barnes & Noble at 731 N. San Fernando Blvd. in Burbank at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Holliday had been overweight since she was a child and had tried it all when it comes to losing weight.

All of the weight-loss methods she has been on — Weight Watchers, Lindora, a modified Atkins diet, juicing and even fasting — helped her shed some pounds, but no matter what she did, she could not keep the weight off.

“I did a million diets and a lot of working out, and I would lose the weight, but I would gain it back and gain even more weight,” she said.

Holliday, who became a Christian in 1982, was reading her Bible and came to a realization.

“The issue isn’t what I’m eating,” she said. “I [became overweight] because I ate too much. The Bible says not to be greedy. So I tried just eating enough, not to the point where I started to feel uncomfortable.”

On June 20, 2009, Holliday, who weighed 312 pounds at the time, opted to follow the Bible teachings and tried not to overindulge herself with food.

Unlike weight-loss diets that restrict certain food groups, Holliday ate whatever she wanted, such as burgers, fries and pizza. However, instead of being gluttonous, she controlled her portions and exercised on occasion. She lost 30 pounds during her first month on her new dieting method.

Holliday continues to practice what she has written about in her book and has lost 130 pounds over nearly seven years — and she is looking to lose another 20.

“A lot of diets are about losing the weight super quick,” she said. “What I’m doing isn’t fast, but it is consistent.”
