Methodology

"Dates" were defined as any person who had sex or was shown going on a date with one of the main characters – regardless of intention. For example, Sid, a gay woman Miranda brings as a fake date solely to curry favor at a dinner hosted by her boss was counted in the data set. Underwear model Derek, who meets Carrie at a fashion show and ends up sleeping platonically in her bed, was not included.
