This was not a banner year for Washington. Admittedly, it never feels like a banner year for Washington, but this year was actually, objectively, the least productive ever.
So in lieu of a year-end recounting of substantive accomplishments, here are the top 13 cases of national political leaders not being able to get out of their own way. The goal is not to assess the merits of the leaders’ objectives in and of themselves, but rather to point out how those objectives got scuttled by their proponents’ own ill-advised statements and actions.
