2-year-old best man dies days after parents’ wedding
A terminally ill 2-year-old boy died just two days after serving as his parents’ best man at their wedding in western Pennsylvania.
Logan Stevenson, whose inclusion in Saturday’s ceremony won his family well-wishers and admirers from across the country, died Monday night after a long battle with leukemia.
“Today Logan was doing very bad,” Logan’s mother, Christine Swidorsky, wrote on Facebook Monday evening, “his breathing was very rapid then slowing down I called hospice to come and she checked him out and she said he’s probably gonna pass Sean and I held him all day he was comfortable with his medication then at 8:18 my son took his last breath in my arms Logan passed away im so sad upset and im in disbelief he is with angels and he’s in no more pain.no more sickness no more hospitals. we love all of u for all your prayers thank u all for caring god bless u all! And most of all god bless Logan I’ll c u in my dreams my son.”
Swidorsky and her husband, Sean Stevenson, moved their planned June 2014 wedding up by nearly a year after learning late last month that Logan had only weeks to live, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported. The couple wanted Logan to see them marry.
Within a week, they had planned a new ceremony in the backyard of their Jeanette home.
Swidorsky carried her son, clad in a pinstripe suit and orange shirt, down the aisle toward Stevenson. Logan eventually landed in his grandmother’s arms, where he dozed off and on during the ceremony, the newspaper said.
Logan, born Oct. 22, 2010, was diagnosed shortly after his first birthday with acute myeloid leukemia, according to the Associated Press. He also had Fanconi anemia, a rare disease that can lead to cancer.
He survived a stem cell transplant and surgery to remove a tumor-ravaged kidney but was given weeks to live when a test revealed a mass in his remaining kidney last month.
“My family is my heart and soul,” Swidorsky told the Post-Gazette.
