Will Ferrell, as Ron Burgundy, to act as announcer at a curling match
Lately, it’s been hard to tell where Will Ferrell ends and Ron Burgundy begins.
In yet another plug for the coming film “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues,” Ferrell on Sunday will cover a curling competition as the fictional newsman, TSN announced.
In full Ron Burgundy mode, Ferrell will call “Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings” in Winnipeg, Canada, alongside TSN broadcaster Vic Rauter.
Ferrell seems to be painting several towns -- and products -- Burgundy ahead of the Dec. 20 release of “Anchorman 2,” the follow-up to the 2004 film “Anchorman.”
The newsman has inspired Ben & Jerry’s new flavor Scotchy Scotch Scotch, Jockey’s underwear packaging and a 223-page “autobiography” called “Let Me Off at the Top.”
There’s also an “Anchorman” exhibit at the Washington, D.C., Newseum, and Emerson will rename its communications school after Burgundy for one day when the faux newsman visits the college Dec. 4.
Will all this promotion translate into movie ticket sales?
If not, Burgundy might have a second career as a car salesman. “Anchorman” ads for the Dodge Durango boosted sales for the SUV 59% after the spots started airing in October, which Burgundy would call “kind of a big deal.”
