Throwback Thursday: Michael Jackson look-alikes rock their best ‘80s looks
On June 19, 1984, 17-year-old Eric Evans donned a pair of “cooler-than-cool aviator sunglasses” and a sequined glove and strutted his stuff on stage.
Evans had been studying Michael Jackson since he was 2 years old, and on that day he was vying to be represented by Ron Smith’s Celebrity Look-Alikes. He was one of seven people the agency chose during the West Hollywood audition. He joined two dozen other Jackson look-alikes selected from more than 300 applicants in a seven-city search.
In a story that ran in the June 20, 1984, edition of The Times, Evans’ mother, Rita, called Jackson her son’s “first love.”
“He was so much in love with him, he grew up to look like him,” she said. “Everyone has an idol to follow, and Michael is his.”
