SACRAMENTO -- Gov. Jerry Brown delivered his State of the State address to a joint session of the Legislature today. The event got underway at 9 a.m.

Brown addressed the budget surplus and the importance of preserving it. The drought was also a major topic of his address: “We are not out of the woods, and we are certainly not out of the drought.”

The speech gave Brown an opportunity to lay out his vision for the state as the economy rebounds but California grapples with natural and man-made calamities, including the drought and mounting pension liabilities for teachers and other government workers.
