Puppy love in Gov. Jerry Brown’s office
Reporting from Sacramento — Is California’s capital big enough for two First Pooches?
Democratic Gov. Jerry Brown adopted a new puppy this month -- Colusa “Lucy” Brown. Of course, Lucy already has her own Twitter handle: @ColusaBrown.
The puppy joins Sutter, a Pembroke Welsh Corgi that Brown took in from his sister, Kathleen, the former state treasurer, in 2011 when she moved to Chicago.
Brown has family roots in Colusa County, which explains the puppy’s unusual first name. The governor and his wife, Anne Gust Brown, own property there, where they spend occasional weekends and may retire at the end of Brown’s historic fourth term as California’s chief executive.
“When she is not out exploring the family ranch in Colusa County with the Governor and First Lady, she can be found guarding the office and herding staff at the State Capitol,’’ the governor’s website states in an announcement about the new puppy.
According to the governor’s office, Lucy was born in March in Red Bluff in a five puppy “Borgie” litter. The puppy’s parents are a purebred Pembroke Welsh Corgi and a half Border Collie and half Pembroke Welsh Corgi.
