Construction worker crushed to death at Orange County landfill
Authorities say a construction worker was crushed to death at a landfill in San Juan Capistrano.
Capt. Daryll Milliot with the Orange County Fire Authority says the man, in his mid- to late 30s, was killed about 3 p.m. Friday at Prima Deshecha Landfill on La Pata Avenue.
The worker was between the frame of a dump truck-style trailer and a lifted bed at the time of the accident.
Milliot said the man may have been trying to manually lower the bed portion of the trailer when it came down, crushing him. A wrench and hydraulic fluid were found nearby.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
It was not immediately clear which company he works for.
The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health is investigating.
