Man arrested on suspicion of DUI after fatal Westminster crash
A 32-year-old Anaheim man has been arrested on suspicion of felony DUI after police say he was involved in a fatal car crash in Westminster early Tuesday.
Westminster police responded to the traffic collision at McFadden Avenue and Brookhurst Street shortly after 1:11 a.m. to discover that a white Nissan Frontier truck had collided with a red Honda Civic at the intersection.
Investigators say the suspect, Emmanuel Garibay, was travelling southbound on Brookhurst Street when he hit the Civic going westbound on McFadden Avenue.
“Investigators are still working to determine which vehicle failed to stop for the red traffic signal,” Westminster Police Sgt. Richard Mize said. “Investigators also believe that alcohol did appear to be a factor in the collision.”
Both drivers were transported to a local hospital for treatment, where the driver of the Civic died. Authorities identified the victim only as a 27-year-old Latino man from Fountain Valley, pending family notification.
Garibay was treated at the hospital before being arrested and later booked at the Orange County Jail on suspicion of felony driving under the influence.
