Stabbing victim was awaiting hearing on restraining-order request
The estranged wife of a man accused of stabbing her to death on a West Hills street had sought a restraining order against him but was awaiting a court hearing, records show.
Michelle Ann Kane, 43, was scheduled to appear in court June 28 for a hearing on her restraining order request, according to the Los Angeles County Superior Court’s case tracking system. She had been granted a partial temporary restraining order but was seeking a more permanent order, court documents showed.
Her husband, Michael Rodney Kane, 46, an elementary school teacher, was arrested early Monday in a Joshua Tree motel room in San Bernardino County. He had been sought since his wife was stabbed multiple times Saturday morning as she fled a home where she and her two children had tried to hide from him, authorities said.
Los Angeles police said Michael Kane went to the home in a quiet, hilly suburban neighborhood and tried to force his way inside. When his wife fled, he chased her down and stabbed her to death, police said.
Michelle Kane had filed for divorce and neighbors of Michael Kane said he had been upset about how things were going.
Police received a tip that Michael Kane might be in San Bernardino County late Saturday. After a search at one location proved unsuccessful, detectives found Kane in Joshua Tree.
He was arrested and treated at a local hospital for cuts and puncture wounds sustained before he was taken into custody, police said. He has since been released and booked on suspicion of murder. Police said he will probably be arraigned Wednesday.
