Man arrested in fatal stabbing of his wife in front of 12-year-old son in Van Nuys
A Van Nuys man who was being sought in connection with the fatal stabbing of his wife was seriously injured after he was struck by a vehicle hours later in Ventura County, authorities said.
Aurelio Teran, 38, was struck by a vehicle about noon in a Camarillo neighborhood, nearly 40 miles north of Van Nuys, where the slaying occurred, said Capt. Garo Kuredjian, spokesman for Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.
When deputies arrived at the crash site, he said, they tried talking to Teran but he was severely injured and could not provide his name and date of birth.
Teran was taken to a hospital, Kuredjian said. On Monday, deputies returned to the hospital to get his name and birth date.
They later discovered Teran was wanted in connection with his wife’s slaying, he said. Teran was immediately arrested and the Los Angeles Police Department was notified.
Authorities had been searching for Teran since Sunday morning when officers found his wife suffering from stab wounds on her upper body in an apartment on the 4900 block of Woodman Avenue in Van Nuys, said LAPD Officer Norma Eisenman.
The 31-year-old woman was taken to a hospital, where she died of her injuries.
According to Eisenman, the stabbing occurred in front of the couple’s 12-year-old son. The boy was not injured during the attack and is in protective custody, she said.
Police recovered the knife used in the attack.
