Teen parents arrested after 22-month-old daughter in coma
Two teenage parents living in Sugarloaf were put behind bars this week after their 22-month-old daughter was in a coma with injuries likely caused by abuse, authorities said.
Sheriff’s deputies found the infant in Bear Valley Hospital on Tuesday after receiving reports of “injuries to her head and body,” according to a news release from the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner’s Department.
The toddler was taken to Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital for more treatment and it was there that “medical examinations performed by forensic pediatricians ... revealed that the victim had extensive injuries suspected of being caused by abuse.”
Her father, 18-year-old Aaron Wayne Degrise, was arrested on suspicion of torture and assault on a child causing coma. The infant’s mother, a 17-year-old minor, was arrested on suspicion of willfully causing or permitting a child to be injured.
