Teacher’s aide accused of groping disabled teen
A teacher’s aide in Lawndale is free on bail after being arrested on suspicion of molesting a teenage girl with mental disabilities, police said.
Juan Carlos Gutierrez, 60, was arrested Friday on three misdemeanor warrants of molesting or annoying a child in relation to an incident at Leuzinger High School that was caught on tape.
According to police, Gutierrez was with a 16-year-old student in a stairwell of the high school on May 7 when he fondled her over her clothing. Gutierrez was an instructional aide at the school.
“The entire incident was captured on surveillance video,” the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement.
Students who saw Gutierrez fondling the student reported it to the principal, authorities said.
Gutierrez was released from custody after posting $60,000 bail.
