Snow falls in L.A.-area mountains; warming trend expected
Snow was falling in Southern California mountains Thursday night, but the region was expected to see a warming trend through the weekend, the National Weather Service said.
A winter weather advisory was issued across the Los Angeles area because of the snowfall, said Bonnie Bartling, a weather specialist with agency’s Oxnard office.
Snow was falling in Big Bear and the Running Springs areas. Bartling said snow could also fall in the San Gabriel Mountains.
Officials in Los Padres National Forest said they would be closing roads because of the potential for snow and rain. Closed roads include Lockwood Creek Road, Frazier Mountain Road, Alamo Mountain Road Grade Valley road, officials said.
Snow levels could drop to 3,500 feet, according to the weather service.
Nearly a quarter of an inch of rain had fallen Thursday evening at Long Beach Airport. There was 0.11 of an inch of rain in downtown Los Angeles, 0.12 of an inch in Chatsworth, 0.32 of an inch in Van Nuys and 0.46 of an inch in Pasadena.
