Ron Goldman’s dad: Grief, anger remain 20 years after Simpson case

As the 20th anniversary of the slayings of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman draws near, Goldman’s father, Fred, said he still struggles with the loss.

“The loss is exactly the same. Nothing has changed,” he told the “Today” show. “Without any of the opportunity to share his life with him, his joys, his happinesses, his successes … all of that is gone.”

Fred Goldman and his daughter Kim became major figures in the crime drama, speaking out publicly against O.J. Simpson.

In 1995, Simpson was acquitted in Los Angeles of murdering his former wife, Brown Simpson, and Goldman. In a subsequent civil trial, Simpson was found liable for civil damages of $33.5 million. The family said they received little of that judgment.

In 2008, Simpson was convicted of robbery and kidnapping in Las Vegas, which sent him to prison for up to 33 years.

Kim Goldman said she has grown a lot since the killing and trial. She told KCBS-TV’s Pat Harvey she is “not the girl that you saw weeping in the courtroom 20 years ago.”

“I get the concept of forgiveness, but when it relates to someone choosing to take the life of another human being, not once, but twice, I don’t know how you forgive,” Kim said. “So, I’m going to take the advice of a lovely woman that sent me an email, and she said, ‘I forgive myself for not forgiving,’ and I’m like, ‘That’s beautiful.’ ”
