San Jose airport terminal closed after water line ruptures
A ruptured water line shut down a terminal at Mineta San Jose International Airport on Monday, prompting warnings of long lines and delays for passengers.
A hot-water line in Terminal A broke about 2:15 a.m., leaving standing water 2 to 3 inches deep in the sky bridge that connects the parking garage to the terminal’s security area, airport Rosemary Barnes told KGO-TV.
Maintenance crews stopped the flow of water at about 4:14 a.m., but the terminal remained closed during the rush hour commute for clean up.
All airlines that operate out of the terminal, including American, All Nippon Airways, Delta, JetBlue, United, U.S. Airways, Virgin American and Volaris, were affected.
Passengers were being redirected to Terminal B to catch flights. Luggage pickups were also moved to Terminal B.
“The airlines are very aware of what’s happening here and will do whatever they can to make sure customers make their flight on time,” Barnes told reporters.
Officials were still inspecting the water leak and possible damage to the facility. The cause of the rupture was not immediately known, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.
