Former Lakers star Robert Horry involved in injury crash
Former Lakers star Robert K. Horry was in a traffic collision Tuesday evening in South L.A. with a motorcyclist that ended with the biker being taken to a hospital with what were described as moderate injuries.
Horry, 43, was driving a 2014 Infiniti east on the 105 Freeway west of Normandie Avenue in the Athens neighborhood about 5:10 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
Horry was in the No.1 lane in “heavy traffic” and the motorcyclist, identified as 44-year-old Xerxes M. Baldonasa of Long Beach, was moving in the same direction and was driving between two sets of double yellow lines that separate the carpool lane and the No. 1 lane “approaching the left rear” of Horry’s vehicle, the CHP said.
Horry tried to move from his lane into the carpool lane and was “crossing over the double yellow lines” as the motorcyclist approached.
This caused Horry to crash into Baldonasa, the CHP said. Horry was not injured in the crash and neither party was arrested. Authorities said the investigation is ongoing.
Given the nickname “Big Shot Rob” because of clutch playoff performances, Horry won three of his seven NBA championships with the Lakers.
