Redondo Beach police officer injured and a suspect shot outside a hotel in Lawndale
A Redondo Beach police officer was injured and a suspect was struck by gunfire Tuesday morning in a shooting outside a hotel in Lawndale, authorities said.
Few details were released about the shooting, which occurred about 10:20 a.m. in the 15000 block of Hawthorne Boulevard outside the Best Western Plus South Bay Hotel, according the Redondo Beach Police Department.
Los Angeles County sheriff’s homicide detectives were responding to the scene of the shooting to investigate, Deputy Mike Barraza said.
The suspect was taken to a hospital, and his condition was not immediately known, he said. The officer was also taken to the hospital, where he was in good condition. His injuries were not known.
Authorities were looking for a second suspect who ran away, he said. Members of a SWAT team were assisting officers in the search.
Witnesses told KTLA-TV they heard 19 shots fired following a robbery at retail store in area.
Aerial footage from KNBC-TV showed the windshield of a black SUV sprayed with bullet holes. A police cruiser appeared to have crashed into the front right side of the SUV.
