Although printmaking has become more rare these days, there are still a number of folks and organizations dedicated to keeping it and its history alive. Every October, the International Printing Museum in Carson holds the annual Los Angeles Printers Fair, celebrating the art of letterpress printing -- complete with rare and working machines. Crowds can visit to see how these machines work and produce prints and books, as well as see modern-day artists keeping love of the printing press alive.

Photographer Justin Jakobson captured this shot of a volunteer setting up a press back in October. He took the image with a Nikon F4.

Each week, we’re featuring photos of Southern California submitted by readers. Share your photos on our Flickr page or reader submission gallery. Follow us on Twitter or visit latimes.com/socalmoments for more on this photo series.
