1990s rapper MC Supreme killed in crash on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu

A rapper best known for the 1990s song “Black in America” was killed over the weekend in a car crash on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu.

Dewayne Coleman, 47, was pronounced dead early Saturday by L.A. County firefighters, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.

Coleman is best known as MC Supreme.

He was in the driver’s seat of a parked Honda Civic about 6:22 a.m. when he was hit by a GMC pickup truck on Pacific Coast Highway at Corral Canyon Road, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The truck flipped over and slid into a parked GMC Sierra.

Coleman died, and his female passenger suffered moderate injuries. She was taken to a hospital. The driver and passenger in the GMC Sierra were uninjured.

The driver of the GMC pickup, Philip Thomas Torres II, 34, of Oxnard, suffered minor injuries. He was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter.

Traffic investigators are looking into whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.

The deadly crash was one of several collisions on PCH over the weekend, renewing concern over the road’s long history of deadly incidents.

Rob Lowe, a longtime Malibu resident, tweeted on Sunday ‘PCH’s been a death trap for decades. No local care to address it. Sad and unacceptable.”
