Uber driver charged with raping unconscious 17-year-old in Orange County
An Uber driver has been charged with raping a 17-year-old girl in Laguna Beach, prosecutors in Orange County said Wednesday.
Samer Mahran, 23, is accused of picking up the teen near a Huntington Beach bar early Saturday and then failing to drive her to her Laguna Beach home, according to the Orange County district attorney’s office.
A family member was suspicious when the girl did not come home within an expected time frame, and her family members used the Uber application’s GPS tracking tool to locate her.
A relative approached Mahran’s car and found him with the girl in the back seat.
Prosecutors allege that Mahran raped and orally copulated her while she was unconscious due to intoxication.
Once the girl was rescued from the back seat, prosecutors allege, Mahran jumped into the driver’s seat and fled the area.
The girl’s family alerted authorities, and Laguna Beach police used the Uber application to track down Mahran, who was arrested at his Huntington Beach apartment.
He was released from Orange County jail Wednesday after posting a $100,000 bond.
