Two people were killed in separate crashes in Pasadena on Thursday morning as rain showers caused havoc across Southland freeways, the California Highway Patrol said.

The eastbound 210 Freeway transition where it meets the 134 Freeway was closed until further notice, officials said, after a crash among three big rigs at midnight killed one person and sent two others to the hospital.

Miles away, a solo big rig crash on the eastbound 210 at Sierra Madre Boulevard just before 3 a.m. blocked three lanes until further notice, said CHP Officer Alex Rubio. The crash also sent wreckage up onto a center concrete barrier, temporarily suspending Metro rail service.

Bus shuttles were replacing Gold Line service between Allen Avenue and Sierra Madre Villa because of the crash, according to Metro.

In Glendale, a big rig crashed into the median on the southbound 5 Freeway at Colorado Boulevard south of the 134 freeway, sending debris across the freeway, blocking four lanes, CHP officials said.

In Orange County, a SigAlert was issued on the northbound 55 Freeway to the eastbound 91 after three cars were involved in a wreck that blocked two lanes, authorities said.

Inland, three lanes on the eastbound 10 Freeway at Euclid Avenue in Ontario were temporarily blocked after five or six vehicles were involved in a wreck just before 6 a.m., said CHP Officer Marcelo Llerena.

“Slow down,” he cautioned commuters. “Give yourself more time, more distance.”
