Suspected pot burglar falls through roof, yells for help, is arrested
A San Pedro man attempting to burglarize a marijuana dispensary early Tuesday fell through the roof, trapping himself inside a security area between the front door and the lobby, authorities said.
Jared Escando, 26, was arrested and booked on suspicion of commercial burglary. Bail was set at $20,000.
Police received a 911 call about 3:20 a.m. from a neighbor who heard glass breaking and a man yelling for help at the Compassionate Caregivers of San Pedro dispensary at 4th and Gaffey streets, said Lt. John Pasquariello of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Harbor Division.
Police said they could see the suspect trapped in the security zone between the front entry and the door leading to the main clinic.
“He tried to break in and miscalculated the drop zone and landed in a secure location where he could not leave or get into the area he presumably wanted to get into to get to the product,” Pasquariello said.
Escando received minor injuries during the fall and was treated by paramedics at the scene, authorities said.
