A former police explorer rammed his truck into the gates of the San Bernardino Police Department parking lot Wednesday, officers said.

Louis Manuel Iniguez drove his Toyota pickup truck into two police headquarters’ gates on E and D streets at about 4:30 p.m. and then drove away, according to the San Bernardino Police Department.

The motive remained a mystery, officials said.

Police released video footage Thursday that showed a vehicle pulling into a driveway at the police headquarters and bumping the gates before reversing and driving away.

Minutes later, Iniguez was arrested at 9th Street and Arrowhead Avenue on suspicion of vandalism.

Iniguez, who lives a few blocks from police headquarters, was a police explorer with the department in the 1990s until he aged out of the program at 21.

Iniguez declined to talk to police about why he hit the gates, police spokeswoman Eileen Hards said. It does not appear that he was under the influence of any narcotics or alcohol, she said.

“We have nothing to point to any larger plot to attack the police station or our personnel, nor do we have any evidence to suggest he is part of a larger plot,” the police department said in a statement.

Iniguez’s family told police that he has been depressed in recent months.

Police officials planned to repair the gates on Thursday.
