Super Bowl police chase kills 3; some were attending San Francisco football event
Three people died in a fiery crash at the end of a police pursuit near Super Bowl festivities Saturday night in San Francisco.
The incident occurred at 9th and Brannan streets around 9:20 p.m. in downtown San Francisco, the San Francisco Police Department reported.
California Highway Patrol officials told KPIX-TV a car was seen doing “doughnuts” in the street. A CHP officer began the pursuit, which ended moments later when the car crashed into a taxi. Officials said the chase itself last only a few seconds.
“The whole car burst into such intense flames — bang! — nobody could survive,” witness Neal Taylor told the station. “There was no movement or sounds of any people … so we couldn’t help them. There was nothing we could do.”
KGO-TV reported that some of the victims had been attending the NFL Experience at Super Bowl City.
