Pedestrian dies in possible hit-and-run on 170 Freeway near Studio City
An 18-year-old man died early Saturday in what authorities said was a possible hit-and-run on the 170 Freeway near Studio City.
California Highway Patrol officers responded about 12:20 a.m. to a report of a pedestrian lying in the northbound lanes of the freeway near the 101/134 interchange, authorities said.
The man died at the scene, and “any potentially involved vehicle was no longer at the scene” when officers arrived, according to a CHP statement.
The man was later identified as Rishi Chaubal Menon, 18, from Australia, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner.
“It was not immediately clear whether the pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle or had in some fashion come out of a vehicle,” the statement said.
Freeway lanes were closed until 3:35 a.m. while investigators were at work.
Highway patrol officials asked anyone with information about the incident to call the West Valley CHP office at 311 or (818) 888-0980.
