Suspected supplier arrested after four men overdose, one fatally, in Newport Beach
Newport Beach police arrested a man Friday who is suspected of providing drugs to four men who overdosed at a nightclub, including one who died.
Paramedics were called to the 2400 block of Newport Boulevard around 1 a.m. Friday because four men were in medical distress, according to police officials. Local media reported that the men were at the American Junkie nightclub.
The four men were transported to a hospital.
An investigation led to Sean Robert McLaughlin, 42, who works at the club and who police believe provided the drugs to the men, officials said. McLaughlin was arrested at his home in Aliso Viejo at 8:45 p.m. Friday, said police Sgt. Peter Carpentieri.
McLaughlin is in custody on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter, Carpentieri said.
The man who died was Ahmed Said, 25, according to the Orange County coroner’s office. Said lived in Santa Ana and died at Huntington Beach Hospital at 7:20 a.m. Friday.
