Metro bus crashes in South L.A., sparking fire; 7 injured
A Metro bus was involved in a collision with three other vehicles in South Los Angeles on Monday night, sparking a car fire that spread to the public bus.
The crash occurred at Western Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard shortly before 7 p.m., said Erik Scott, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The bus caught fire but the flames were quickly knocked down, Scott said.
Seven people were injured, with two of them in critical condition, Scott said. Six of those injured were taken to the hospital, and one person opted not to go.
The driver was the only person aboard the bus, Scott said.
Aerial footage from KNBC-TV Channel 4 showed an orange Metro bus with extensive burn damage and broken windows around the middle. The bus appeared to have been T-boned by the car, which was also severely burned and apparently totaled.
Two Los Angeles police officers and another person helped remove people from a burning vehicle, authorities said.
