An eighth-grader at a San Diego County middle school has been arrested on suspicion of selling marijuana gummy bears to other students, some whom got sick, officials said.

The unidentified male student at Bonita Vista Middle School is suspected of selling the drug-laced candy to several other students during school hours at the Chula Vista campus, district spokesman Manny Rubio said.

Two of the students who ate the gummy bears became ill and paramedics was called. They were treated at the school and released to their parents, Rubio said.

The boy accused of selling the contraband was arrested and released to his parents, Chula Vista police said. The case will be forwarded to investigators with the district attorney’s office, who will decide whether to file charges.

It’s unclear what repercussions the students who ingested the drugs will face.
