The owner of a nightclub in Silver Lake has filed a claim against the city of Los Angeles for $10 million, claiming city code enforcement officers have unfairly targeted his business.

In a claim filed last month, Los Globos co-owner Steven Edelson says L.A.’s Department of Building and Safety Code Enforcement mistakenly shut down dancing on the first floor of the popular Silver Lake night spot.

Edelson is seeking $2 million in lost business, $5 million for damage to his and his club’s reputation, $3 million in emotional distress and $50,000 to date in attorney fees.

The club is one of a few spots in Los Angeles that stays open till dawn, though it stops serving alcohol at 2 a.m. The city says Los Globos doesn’t have the proper permits for his first-floor partying; Edelson claims the city won’t work with him.

In an interview with LA Weekly, Edelson said the city is deliberately being difficult to appease neighbors complaining of the noise.
