Long Beach police officers shot and killed a man on Saturday after responding to reports of a person holding an Uzi, which turned out to be an airsoft rifle, authorities said.

Officers had responded to 911 calls that reported a man holding an assault rifle in the street. When officers arrived, they saw a man who matched the description speaking to three other people who were in a car, Zabel said.

Officers shot the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene, Zabel said. No officers were injured, she said.

The other three men were not injured and were detained for questioning. An airsoft rifle was recovered from the scene.
