Laguna Hills water main break forces evacuations
A water main break behind a home in Laguna Hills undermined a hillside and caused sinkholes to form, forcing the evacuations of the house and five apartment buildings down the hill.
The water main break behind the home at 2 Clover Hill Lane occurred about 1:10 p.m. Saturday, officials said. Down the hillside from that break are five four-plexes in the 25700 block of Via Lomas.
About 60 people were displaced, and the Orange County Fire Authority is awaiting a soil engineer to study the hillside, said fire division Chief Kris Concepcion.
“What we’re afraid of is the stability of the hill,” Concepcion said.
The Moulton Niguel Water District stopped the flow of water about an hour after the break.
