MMA fighter ‘Mayhem’ Miller charged with fighting two police officers

Mixed-martial-arts fighter Jason “Mayhem” Miller has been charged with fighting two police officers in Laguna Beach after allegedly causing a commotion inside a restaurant.

Miller, 34, faces one count each of resisting an officer by using violence, battery on the officers and resisting arrest and obstructing, according to an Orange County Superior Court complaint.

He is expected to appear in court Tuesday afternoon.

Miller has been in custody in lieu of $220,000 bail after the disturbance -- during which he allegedly broke a glass -- at White House restaurant in the 300 block of South Coast Highway in Laguna Beach.

Police said Miller walked out of the restaurant after the incident and headed south on PCH on foot. He then turned around and walked back toward the restaurant, where he was confronted by four Laguna Beach officers, said police Sgt. Tim Kleiser

Miller began to fight with police, Kleiser said. Four officers grappled with Miller as he allegedly kicked and spat at them before they were able to put him in a police cruiser.

Miller continued his violent behavior and kicked at the police cruiser’s windows on the way to jail, Kleiser said.

The incident was only the latest skirmish the trained fighter has had with police.

In October, Miller live-tweeted his standoff with police while barricaded inside his Mission Viejo home.

When Orange County sheriff’s deputies went to the house to arrest Miller on warrants in connection with an alleged domestic violence incident, stalking and a court-order violation, he ran into his house and refused to come out, authorities said.

The MMA fighter tweeted the standoff and told followers, “If you would like to see this drama unfold, please come” to the address.

Hours later, SWAT members broke through the front door. Miller ran out the back door but then surrendered.

In 2012, Miller was arrested after deputies found him dozing naked on a couch in an Orange County church that had been burglarized and vandalized.

At the time, police said “When they asked him his name, he kept saying, ‘Mayhem, Mayhem.’ They didn’t know who he was — they thought he was being uncooperative.”

Court records show Miller has been charged with three felonies and two misdemeanors in connection with to the two previous incidents. He has pleaded not guilty in both cases and is awaiting trial.

It was not immediately clear what charges Miller would face, if any, in connection with Saturday’s incident.
