Isla Vista shootings: Counselors are available for students, families

Officials at UC Santa Barbara said Saturday that they have activated the campus emergency operations center to assist grieving or concerned families in the wake of Friday night’s Isla Vista shooting rampage.

Parents inquiring about whether their children were involved can call (805) 893-3901. Counselors will be available at (805) 893-4411.

Gov. Gov. Jerry Brown issued a statement expressing sorrow about the Isla Vista rampage.

Brown said he and his wife, Anne Gust Brown, “were saddened to learn of this senseless tragedy.”

In a statement released in Sacramento, Brown added that “our thoughts and prayers go out to those mourning the loss of their loved ones during this difficult time.’’

University of California President Janet Napolitano said the university has set up a room for arriving families to handle their questions.

She said grief counselors are being made available to students, faculty and staff who need support. Napolitano said she was “shocked and deeply saddened” by the shootings.
