‘King of Instagram’ freed after arrest at LAX
A millionaire poker player nicknamed the “King of Instagram” was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport on Tuesday night on weapons charges, police said.
Dan Bilzerian, 34, is known for his playboy lifestyle and his frequent Instagram postings that feature scantily clad or naked women, weapons and expensive cars. He has 5.7 million followers on the social media platform.
Bilzerian was arrested about 10 p.m. Tuesday after landing at LAX in a private jet, having come from the Bahamas.
Bilzerian was booked at LAPD’s Pacific Division just after 10 p.m. and was held without bail. But he was released at 1:16 p.m. Wednesday after charges were dropped, according to a Los Angeles County jail official.
Bilzerian was released because his lawyer, David Chesnoff, successfully sought to have the arrest warrant recalled through the Nevada state courts system.
Since Bilzerian faces no charges in California, police could no longer keep him behind bars, Chesnoff said.
Bilzerian and another passenger, Jeremy Guymon, 36, were wanted on felony no-bail warrants in Clark County, Nev., on charges of possessing explosives on public land.
Authorities were alerted to the warrants on Bilzerian and Guymon when their names were cross-checked with databases for the international flight, LAX Police Sgt. Karla Ortiz said.
Clark County records show Bilzerian and Guymon are scheduled to be arraigned there in January.
