Man’s ‘handsome’ mug shot goes viral on police Facebook page

The mug shot of 30-year-old Jeremy Meeks, a convicted felon arrested this week in Stockton, has gone viral.

It didn’t take long for the mug shot to go viral, attracting more than 40,000 likes and comments from admirers and detractors on Facebook.

Jeremy Meeks, 30, has dreamy eyes, prominent cheekbones and a chiseled face. He also was arrested on felony weapons charges, the Stockton Police Department said.

But that hasn’t stopped a steady stream of likes, shares and comments from being posted on the department’s Facebook page after the mugshots of Meeks and three other suspects were published following their arrests on Wednesday.

By early Friday, Meeks’ arrest photo had garnered more than 45,000 “likes,” and 13,700 comments, and had been shared more than 4,900 times.

“Let him go, he is beautiful,” one woman wrote.

“Sign me up to be his cell mate,” another woman joked.

Others wrote that Meeks deserved his own reality TV show or a Calvin Klein photo shoot.

“Seriously,” one man said, “he needs an agent like yesterday!”

But not everyone was appreciative of the tattooed Meeks, who police say is a convicted felon. Police say Meeks was arrested by members of a multi-agency task force who seized four firearms in the operation.

“Nobody has standards anymore!” one woman wrote. “The guy is a convicted felon.”

Either way, a Stockton Police Department spokesman said no previous arrest photo has attracted so much attention since the agency launched its Facebook page in 2012.

“I have not seen that many likes for a photo before,” Officer Joseph Silva told the Associated Press.
