14 Freeway in Santa Clarita Valley is reopened after fire-related closure
The 14 Freeway in the Santa Clarita Valley was reopened in both directions Sunday evening after it was shut down hours earlier as a precaution because of strong wind conditions in the fire zone, officials said.
The freeway was reopened about 7:30 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. Several freeway onramps were also being reopened.
The freeway had been shut down about 4 p.m.
The Sand fire, which erupted about 2 p.m. Friday in the mountain area, has burned more than 22,000 acres and destroyed 18 structures. Authorities are also investigating the death of one person found inside a car in the fire zone, but the cause of death has not been determined.
