Big-rig driver flees scene of fatal multi-vehicle crash in Fontana
The California Highway Patrol is searching for a big-rig driver who fled on foot after being involved in a fatal multi-vehicle crash in Fontana early Thursday.
The accident was reported about 2:11 a.m. at Etiwanda and San Bernardino avenues, just north of the 10 Freeway, KTLA reported.
A CHP dispatcher for the Inland Empire Traffic Management Center did not immediately have details on the crash. But at the scene, CHP Sgt. Eric Lee told news reporters that the big rig was traveling north on Etiwanda, ran a red light and collided with two vehicles that were traveling west on San Bernardino.
One of the crash victims died at the scene. The conditions of the other drivers were not immediately known.
Lee said the unidentified big-rig driver abandoned the vehicle at Napa Street, just north of the intersection.
As of 7 a.m. authorities were still searching for the man.
