Cold storm brings heavy winds, showers and snow to L.A. area
A cold storm brought scattered showers across the Los Angeles area Monday evening and a dusting of snow at higher mountain elevations, the National Weather Service said.
A winter weather advisory was issued until 11 a.m. Tuesday for mountain areas above 5,500 feet in Riverside and San Bernardino counties, the Weather Service said.
The agency said snow was beginning to accumulate Monday evening at the 6,100-foot level in Wrightwood.
Scattered showers were reported across the San Gabriel Mountains, where snow was falling Monday night above 8,000 feet. Snow levels were expected to drop overnight to 5,000 feet, according to the Weather Service.
The agency said the storm was expected to drop 1 to 3 inches of snow.
The storm brought heavy winds to mountain areas and the Antelope Valley, where gusts up to 45 mph were expected.
The cold weather was expected to last through Tuesday. The Weather Service said a warming trend would begin Wednesday and Thursday.
By Friday, the agency said, temperatures in the 80s are expected by in valley areas of Los Angeles County.
