South L.A. teacher is facing two years for sexually abusing students
A Los Angeles charter school teacher faces up to two years in prison after admitting in court to sexually abusing two students over the course of six months.
Juan Ramon Cardoza, 56, of Downey, pleaded no contest Thursday to two counts of lewd acts upon a child in connection with sexually assaulting two girls ages 13 and 14. The abuse happened between October 2012 and March of this year while Cardoza worked at New Designs Charter School in South L.A.
Cardoza was initially charged with four counts of lewd acts upon a child and one misdemeanor count of molestation and faced up to six years in prison. As part of his plea deal, Cardoza admitted to two counts and is expected to be sentenced to two years when he’s sentenced Feb. 20.
He will also have to register as a sex offender for life and pay restitution to his victims.
