Amid a heat wave expected to last into next week, firefighters were battling two growing brush fires Friday in L.A. and Ventura counties.

A fire was burning in the hills above Simi Valley, prompting an aggressive response from firefighters in the air and on the ground. The Rustic fire has burned at least 150 acres.

The Rustic fire broke out as afternoon temperatures climbed into triple digits and was burning on hillsides near homes. About 500 homes were threatened, according to Capt. Mike Lindbery of the Ventura County Fire Department but no evacuations have been ordered.

Smoke from the fire could be seen from the Malibu Hills, according to the L.A. Fire Department, which tweeted a photo.

No injuries have been reported.

The other brush fire broke out in the Angeles National Forest on Friday afternoon, scorching more than 1,800 acres north of Glendora, officials said.

That fire, the Cabin fire, was reported just after 1 p.m,. according to Angeles forest spokesman Andrew Mitchell. Structures were threatened by the fire, Mitchell said, but it was not immediately clear whether those structures are homes. Aerial footage of the fire showed a burning building.

The fire was burning off California 39 near Rincon Red Box Road, Mitchell said. U.S. Forest Service firefighters were on scene, Mitchell said. Fire crews from Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties were assisting.

The city of Glendora said in a Facebook post that there was no immediate threat to residents at this time. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
