A 9-year-old boy was struck and killed late Thursday by hit-and-run drivers while walking in a crosswalk in Orange with his sister, police said.

Jesse Rosales and his sister were crossing at Glassell Street and Wilson Avenue when two vehicles drove through a red light at the intersection and hit him, Orange police Lt. Fred Lopez said.

The vehicles continued driving north on Glassell Street and crashed at Taft Avenue, he said. Police arrested both drivers on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run causing great bodily harm, Lopez said.

Police are investigating what led to the fatal crash. They don’t believe the vehicles were street racing, he said.

Friday was a deadly day for pedestrians throughout the area. The boy was one of three people killed overnight in Orange and Los Angeles counties.

McCrary appears to have gotten out of his car, which was found parked along the road, before he was hit by a 20-year-old Laguna Hills woman.

She was not under the influence, Kravitz said.

McCrary was taken to Saddleback Memorial Medical Center, where he died.

An hour later, in Downey, a 20-year-old man was trying to cross the 8100 block of Firestone Boulevard with a skateboard when he was struck by a Honda, driven by a 36-year-old man, police said.

The young man died at the scene.
