35 LAX flights canceled due to arctic weather in Midwest
Nearly three dozen flights at Los Angeles International Airport have been canceled since midnight due to frigid weather in the Midwest and northeastern U.S., officials said Monday night.
More than 5,200 passengers were affected by the 35 canceled flights, an LAX spokeswoman said in a statement.
The flights were arrivals or departures involving Chicago-O’Hare, New York-JFK, Newark and Washington/Dulles airports.

Passengers on 151 flights that were not canceled experienced delays averaging 90 minutes, LAX officials said. Passengers are advised to check with their airlines for the latest information on their flights.
The severe weather was being caused by a huge mass of Arctic air known as a “polar vortex,” which originated in the North Pole and settled over the Midwest, according to the National Weather Service.
The agency said that subzero temperatures accompanied by strong winds Monday produced wind chills of more 30 degrees below zero across a number of areas.
