More than 30 German shepherd-mix dogs were removed from a Highland residence on Monday.

Animal control received a call about abandoned animals and left a notice at the residence for the owner to contact them, said Greg Beck, program manager for San Bernardino County Animal Care and Control. When authorities returned Monday, the notices were in the same place.

At that point, the canines -- a group of 34 males and females -- were considered abandoned and were taken to the Devore Animal Shelter, he said. The dogs range in age from 6 months to 7 years old.

“They’re dirty, but at this point in time we haven’t seen any signs of cruelty and neglect,” Beck said.

Officials are trying to reach the owner. The dogs will be put up for adoption in 10 days if the owner does not appear, said C.L. Lopez, a San Bernardino County spokeswoman.

“It’s definitely not the average amount of dogs that people have,” she said.
